Our Mission
To celebrate the heritage of Mexican cuisine and culture through a modern lens,
offering an upscale yet approachable dining experience that connects the community through food, tradition, and art.
Cempasúchil aims to not only serve the residents of Hercules but also to attract diners from across the Bay Area, showcasing the unique charm and culinary excellence of Chef David Neri.
Executive Chef & Owner David Neri

David Neri was raised in Mexico City, surrounded by the bold flavors and rich culinary traditions of his heritage. He began working in food at just eleven years old through his sisters’ catering business, where he developed both skill and a deep love for creating meaningful dining experiences.
By twenty, under the mentorship of Chef Tim Cass, David was appointed head chef for UC Berkeley’s athletic department, collaborating with sports nutritionists to craft flavorful, performance-driven meals. He went on to refine his culinary style in respected Bay Area restaurants, blending traditional Mexican roots with modern techniques.
Beyond the kitchen, David has helped restaurants and small businesses strengthen their operations, menus, and overall guest experience through consulting and hands-on leadership. Now, he brings his passion, expertise, and cultural pride to Cempasúchil—where every dish celebrates authentic Mexican flavor and the power of food to bring people together.
